Revegetation of Coorong Dairies

This was the first project of LRA which was to plan the revegetation of an area of degraded scrub within Coorong Dairies and convert it to a biodiversity reserve and was completed in 2004.

Wellington Wetlands

The second project, to rehabilitate an area of degraded land and former wetlands in the Murray River Corridor, was commenced in March 2005 as a joint venture with Wellington Property Development Pty Limited. The project is situated south of Tailem Bend where the river discharges into the lakes at the mouth of the Murray and is the last port for river boats before the open water of the lakes. On completion it will constitute one of the largest areas of reconstructed wet land in the Murray River corridor, contributing to water quality and restoring a degraded area of banks and wind blown sand hills. It will be financed by sales of redeveloped river side land into a residential area to serve the growth in light industrial manufacturing in the region and the leisure market. The wetland is to be managed by LRA on behalf of trustees made up of representatives from commercial tenants, residents and a local community group. Details can be seen at www.wellwetland.com.
